Simple Life Hacks for the Elderly

Simple Life Hacks for the Elderly

Aging and certain health conditions may often cause challenges for simple everyday tasks. However, there are a lot of tips and tricks that can help make their lives easier and prevent injuries or accidents.

As a non-medical home care agency in Canada, we have created a list of easy DIY tips that you can follow for our elder loved ones to have a safe and hassle-free life. Below are three of the most common:

  1. Soften all sharp edges.
Tables, counters, drawers, and nightstands often have sharp and pointy corners or edges. They may cause injury when hit. So, you can use clay to soften those edges. Also, there are specific stick-on guards for corners that you can buy at your local grocery.
  2. Prevent your soap from falling.
Since soap is very slippery when wet, it can slip from your hand while you are showering. This can be dangerous for our seniors. To prevent this, place the soap inside one part of your old pantyhose and tie it on the showerhead.
  3. Wrap rubber bands for added grip.
Seniors usually have shaky and weak hands, which may cause their drinks to fall. To add grip to mugs and cups, wrap a rubber band around them. This can also work on pens and toothbrushes. However, there are also foam grips for a much more comfortable grip.
